Illinois health officials report 1,959 new cases of Coronavirus

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,959 new coronavirus confirmed and probable cases in Illinois it also includes 22 additional deaths. These new cases added to the total of 1,304,200 cases, including 21,685 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois.

The health department noticed in the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 47,506 specimens for a total of 21,776,820.  As of Sunday night, 2,128 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with coronavirus. Out of 491 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit and 227 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of the total test from April 12-18, 2021 is 4.0%. The seven-day statewide test positivity from April 12-18, 2021 is 4.7%.The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses for Illinois is 9,930,945. A total of 8,119,867 vaccines have been administered in Illinois.  The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 125,212 doses.  On Sunday, 65,233 doses were reported administered in Illinois

Cook County is pausing use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, county health officials, based on U.S. regulators’ recommendation amid an investigation into reports of rare but potentially dangerous blood clots.The spokeswoman for Cook County Health said that following the guidance by the US Food and Drug Administration and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Cook County Health will pause the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine until the FDA and CDC complete their review. Individuals with appointments for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine this week will instead receive the first dose of either Moderna or Pfizer’s vaccine, depending on the vaccination site.
